Capsicum Sambar
Sambar is a popular dish in south Indian Cuisine. Mostly sambar is made with different vegetables. Capsicum sambar is a unique recipe which tastes good.
It can be served with rice, dosa, idly or pongal. Though it can be prepared in many ways, I use this method when I wanted it to be more delicious.Ingredients
- Toor dal - 1/2cup
- Garlic - 3
- Green chilly - 3
- Turmeric powder - 1/2tsp
- Water - 1cup
- Oil - 2Tsp
- Mustard - 1tsp
- Urad dal - 1tsp
- Dry red chilly - 3
- Curry leaves - few
- Coriander leaves - few
- Onion - 1medium sized
- Tomato - 1
- Capsicum - 1
- Sambar powder - 4tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1/2tsp
- Asafoetida - 1/2tsp
Method
- Take washed toor dal, garlic, green chilly, turmeric powder in a pressure cooker and add 1cup of water to it. Cook it in medium heat for 3 whistles. Set it aside.
- In a medium sized wok, bring oil to heat and add mustard. when it splutters add urad dal, curry leaves and dry red chilly. Add chopped onions and fry until it becomes golden brown in color.
- Then add chopped tomatoes to it and saute until it is cooked to pulp.
- Now add sambar powder and mix well.
- Add the capsicum which is cut lengthwise. Saute it to get the masala coated well.
- Pour 4cups of water, add salt and red chilly powder.
- Soak the tamarind in the warm water, squeeze it and add the tamarind water.
- Bring it to boil. Cook it until the capsicum gets cooked and the water reduces. This takes 15 minutes.
- After this mash the dal which we have prepared already and mix it properly to made it thick.
- Now check for the salt, add if needed.
- Add asafoetida and stir it.
- Switch of the flame and Garnish it with coriander leaves.
